Welcome to our Classroom!
Don't forget that there is a link at the bottom of the webpage to this weeks New2You Newspaper for you to read at home with your child.
Also, every Monday we will send home the News2You worksheets that we don't get to that week. You can do those papers at home with your child for extra practice if you are looking for homework.
We are heading into the last 40 days of school!
Our IAM testing window is open for the next month. I will be testing students individually. We will continue with our daily routine, but I will not be working individually with students for several weeks, while I complete the testing.
Friday, May 11-Unified Track Meet
Thursday, May 23-Last day of school
This week: April 15-19
Language Arts: We have had a letter, number, shape and color of the week all year. We won't have anymore featured for the remainder of the year and instead will be reviewing all the letters, numbers 1-100, shapes and colors. Feel free to review these at home as well. I also encourage you to try to incorporate more "wh" questions into your time with your child. It will increase their comprehension.
Math: We aren't doing a number of the week anymore. We are focusing more on skip counting. Students are counting by 5s daily. We coninue to work on time, time span and money. As always, we are working on graphing. Imbedded within graphing we work on tally marks, rote counting, greater than less than, most/least and equal. Students in grades 4 and up are working on calculator skills. Please practice number skills at home by counting objects, telling time, finding shapes and talking about more and less.
Please continue to work on time span at home. We do it on the hour. I give students a scenario such as "I went to Walmart at 3:00. I shopped for 2 hours. What time did I get home?" We use an oversized clock and make the short hand jump two times to get the answer. You could also use a number line to make two jumps.
We are still working on counting grids, groups of 100s, 10s and ones. How many is a group of 100, 2 groups of 10s and 3 ones?
Science: This weeks News2You features frogs. We will be learning about frogs and tadpoles. We will learn about the life cycle from egg to frog.
Social Studies: We will learn about the habitat of the frog.
Craft: The craft this week is painting a rock to look like a frog.
Life Skills: This weeks cooking is fruity frog slushies.
